Cinedans FEST'21 Jury Members
During Cinedans FEST '21 we hand out awards to the winners of our International Short Film competition & the International Student Competition. This years international shorts programme is the biggest one yet and features some of the best dance films from 2019 & 2020 combined. The award for the student competion is brought to you by Canon & CUT-UP. This programme features young talent from across the world.
International Short Film Competition
Lisa Smith
During the last year of her masters Lisa Smith was working at the cinema. It was a dark cold winter night when she dreamt with her colleague about an open-air cinema during summer with films that did have a release in the cinemas but are worth to be shown to a new film audience. Films that touch you in the heart, mind and sight. Since 2013 she’s been organizing Roffa Mon Amour, a film festival that expresses love for cinema, love for the city and everlasting love for romance. The festival presents the best up and coming directors of the year, older cinema, cinema concerts, introductions and Q&A’s. In 2021 the festival will celebrate its ninth edition. Alongside the festival she set up a film night La Notte and she worked as a curator at Eye o.a. As a film programmer she’s always searching for touching cinema; it may hurt, make you feel in love or create awareness., as excitement comes from creating new concepts and connecting art with audiences.
Emio Greco
Emio Greco is an Italian dancer and choreographer, who since 1995 has formed a close duo with the Dutch choreographer Pieter C. Scholten. Greco studied at the Centre de Danse International Rosella Hightower in Cannes and began his dance career at the Ballet Antibes Cote d'Azur. In 2009, together with Scholten, he founded ICK Dans Amsterdam, an institute that occupies a key position in contemporary dance with its performances, artist space and academy. For both artists, the search for the intuitive body is the main driving force. They have received numerous awards and their work is internationally recognised and regularly presented in major festivals and theatres all over the world. From 2014 to 2019, Greco and Scholten led Ballet National de Marseille alongside ICK. In recent years Greco - with Scholten – created the diptych Appearance-Disappearance (2018/2019), Shameless (2019), and Sweet Like a Chocolate (2019). The world premieres of We Want It All (2021) and Blasphemy Rhapsody (2021) had to be postponed due to the pandemic. A special film adaptation of the piece was made in cooperation with filmmaker and Golden Calf winner Arno Dierickx. The film will premiere during Cinedans FEST ‘21.
Kati Kallio
Kati Kallio is Finnish dance artist and filmmaker. She is one of the pioneers of dance films in Finland and was an artistic director of Loikka Dance Film Festival (2015-2018). She became the leading dance film expert in Finland and travels the globe to present her work, curate dance film programs and teach this specific genre. Kati has a MA degree in Dance from UniArts Helsinki – Theatre Academy. During her dancer career she worked in several freelance dance productions in Finland and taught dance for children and youth. Her artistic works has been focused in dance films since 2008. Since then, she has completed 15 short dance films which have been screened and broadcasts widely around the globe. Since 2010, together with dance artist Elli Isokoski from the dance group Myskyryhmä, Kallio has created a special method for inclusive participatory filmmaking. There created five short films in collaboration with senior citizens.
International Student Competition
Andrea Božić
Andrea Božić is a choreographer and artist based in Amsterdam. She has a degree in Comparative Literature and English Language from the University of Zagreb, and dance and performance from the School For New Dance Development and Master of Choreography, Amsterdam. Her work is in-disciplinary and takes form of live performance, installation, collaborations with the weather and night sky. The work reorganizes attention and perception, creates paradoxical situations and asks questions about spectatorship and imagination, perception of presence, the politics of viewing, presentation of reality and the organisation and distribution of authorship. All individual projects are part of larger constellations. It has been presented at numerous festivals and venues internationally within the performing and visual arts (Frascati, SPRING, Vooruit, ImpulsTanz, Reina Sofia Museum, Centre Pompidou Metz, de Appel Arts Centre, a.o.). Andrea was artist-in-residence at the ICK and Frascati. Since 2009 she is artistic co-director of in-disciplinary platform TILT together with visual artist Julia Willms and sound artist Robert Pravda. She is tutor at DAS Theatre and researcher at DAS Research (DAS Graduate School Amsterdam) and has taught extensively internationally.
Nikita Maheshwary
Originally from New Delhi, Nikita Maheshwary is a performance practitioner based in The Netherlands, with over a decade of experience in choreography, research, dance pedagogy and curation. Her art inquiries lie at the nexus of gender, culture, and identity. Through her performances, short films, exhibits, curation work and writings, she is deeply invested in telling stories of plurality, female agency, forms of marginalization and class divide. Since 2019, as a research fellow at the DAS Graduate School, Amsterdam she is invested in a long-term artistic research project called Naachnewali: The Dancing Girl. Currently, she works as a performance maker, teaches at the Fontys Academy of Circus and Performance Arts, FHK, Tilburg and guest lectures at various arts programmes and institutions in Europe and India.
Peter Delpeut
Peter Delpeut is a filmmaker and writer. From 1988 to 1995 he was programmer and deputy director of Eye Filmmuseum. He makes films in many genres: found footage (e.g., Lyrical Nitrate), documentary (e.g., In Loving Memory) and feature film (The Forbidden Quest; Felice...Felice...). He writes novels (most recently In het zwart van de spiegel) and essays. In 1993, together with choreographers LeineRoebana, he made the short dance film E pur si muove. For Cinedance 2014 he presented a programme on 'found choreography', a genre to which he also includes his video installation One Hand Clapping. He adapted the material for this installation into a dance film with the same title. In April his new book Het vergeten kwaad. De herinneringen van Jonas Mekas will be published.
