In her first full-length documentary, Canadian director Christine Chevarie-Lessard portrays the life, dreams and expectations of four very young dancers at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec. These dancers are about to exchange childhood for adolescence - an essential period in everyone's life. It is the time when a child's fantasies begin to collide with the everyday reality of being an adult.

Chevarie-Lessard chooses the perspective of the children and gives them plenty of room to tell their stories candidly. This results is a tender and captivating film that was awarded the Joliette Institution’s Women Inmates ’Award at the Montreal International Documentary Festival. The jury, consisting of women serving a prison sentence, praised the film for the beautiful dance performances and authentic stories. "A Delicate Balance took us back to our childhood."

Can we please mention that the film is very educational and sheds light to the internal processes of the dance practice of ballet? This doc is ideal for all young ballet dancers and their parents, as well as everyone that wants to experience what it means to devote to the life of dance.
