Black Light Dance: Shorts
Cinedans FEST joins in with Black Light – a special programme focusing on black cinema curated by Eye Filmmuseum and Cinedans.
For this programme, we showcase a selection of some of the best recent dance shorts from the African continent and the diaspora, co-curated by Azu Nwagbogu and The Nest Collective. We focus on stories about heritage, survival tactics and emancipation, in a post-colonial era. Contemporary makers tackle through creativity and imagination, issues of gender, personal expression and authoritarian structures, presenting a picture of a world full of multi-directional tensions.
During the festival, we additionally organise a demolecture about the roots of urban dance by Funmi Adewole and Nita Liem and present the documentary Beyond My Steps, about the diversity of traditional dance styles in contemporary Angola.
