Contrasting the force of nature with our need and desire for stability, Salt Water opens with a sculptural mass of bodies; bare curved backs swaying, rising and falling in wave-like motions. Beneath the abstract form, intimate human connections reside – a call from the depths that is once again swept away.

In the streets of a deserted and distorted, digital version of the Danish town of Viborg, seven identical avatars perform a choreography based on the musical West Side Story, while singing All, or Nothing at All – originally sung by Frank Sinatra and re-interpreted by Danish singer Nina Vadshølt.

Le Faune is a fantasy world on film, based on the ballet L’après-midi d’un Faune (1912) by Vaslav Nijinsky and Claude Debussy. Nijinsky's original style, rectangular and with slightly sexually tinted movements, caused commotion amongst the audience and press. In his film Le Faune, just like Nijinski, Joseph Simon incorporates new influences to the code of ballet and has created an enchanting dance-film about voyeurism, intimacy and sexuality.

This film tells the story of one and each person at the same time. Dance Collective Arnhemse Meisjes dance a powerful life path in which experiences from the past and memories from the future emerge. They come together in the present moment in which everything is allowed, because everything turns; everything comes, everything passes. Do the future and the past run parallel in the present? 

Through a dialogue between movement and landscape, Lazarus reflects on the objectification of the female body in film. The famous quote by Edgar Allan Poe 'the death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world' triggers a succession of falls and recoveries to escape the poem. 

Covert elaborates the idea of a ‘space between’, in which the focus of engagement is determined by the dynamics between the movements of the dancers: towards and away from the camera.

Air flows into bodies as bodies flow into water, roll through sand, leap through air. Seen from an aerial viewpoint, a group of five dancers move to the rhythm of breathing – is it earth itself? Their bodies connect and dissolve in a sensuous tribute to the origin of existence.

Valkyries, the beautiful virgins from Nordic mythology, take care of the bravest warriors. These stories and fantasies are magnified in this dark but colourful symbolist film by Canadian choreographer, director, visual artist and dancer Alan Lake.
