Being Jérôme Bel
In 2015, the artist / choreographer Jérôme Bel gave directors Sima Khatami & Aldo Lee free reign to film him at work. But to make a film on Bel is to embark on a paradoxical project: how does one direct the work of an 'anti-director'? How does one remain author in the face of a world-renowned artist known for his work on the 'death of the author'? During the shooting which took place over a long period of time, they waited for an unexpected event. An event that would push Jérôme Bel out of the character that the directors were busy constructing. The event took place. They seized it.
A not to miss film about the ambiguous nature of this 'anti-director' who makes a frantic attempt to take over the lead from the film directors.
This programme is accompanied by a Q&A with the makers.
