VRLab Open House
For the third time in a row Cinedans organizes the Cinedans VRLab. Three international makers experiment with dance, movement and body in a virtual environment. What does physicality mean in a world that is not real but does feel real?
In the Playground of A Lab, directly opposite Eye, the makers work on their own research, while Cinedans provides coaching in the field of technology, design and content.
The Lab will hold an open house during Cinedans FESTon June 25 and 26 to test and view the experiments.
During the open house of the Cinedans VRLab, two artists will also present their works in development. On 25 and 26 June, director and interdisciplinary artist Celine Daemen will be testing 'Euridyce, a descent into infinity', her new VR opera inspired by the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. You can find that in Tolhuistuin (next to A Lab).
On June 26, Keez Duyves, artist, inventor and founder of PIPS:lab, will present his interactive XR installation 'SDDD'. In collaboration with IDlab, poetic laboratory for digital technologies at the Amsterdam School of the Arts,
he is working on a dance equivalent of a digital social platform.
In addition to the three makers, Cinedans has invited neuroscientists Ineke van der Ham (Leiden University) and Anouk Keizer (Utrecht University) to research 'embodiment' and 'sense of presence' in virtual space. They are also part of the Lab setting in A Lab.
During the Lab, Joris Weijdom, lecturer, researcher and designer of mixed reality works (HKU and University of Twente) is invited as an 'outside eye'. He follows the processes, watches and thinks along. On Thursday 23/06 at 13:00, he will give a lunch lecture in which he will tell more about his work and vision. This lecture is open to visitors of Cinedans FEST.
Cinedans VRLab ’22 participants are: Vesna Petresin (SI), Margherita Landi (IT) and the Blies Brothers (Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies) (FR).
Nienke Rooijakkers, Sergi van Ravenswaay and Matunda Groenendijk act as cocahes.
A Lab is a community of 300 creative, innovative and socially relevant Members that love to collaborate and experiment in our building, the former Shell laboratory in the heart of Amsterdam across Central Station. (opposite Eye)
