The Programme of Cinedans FEST ’21 is here !

This March Cinedans returns with the 17th international edition of Cinedans FEST Online.

Cinedans FEST ’21 presents all dance styles and techniques 
showing 116 films from 36 countries with the jury awards for best dance short and best student film. In addition we showcase the best of the Dutch dance film in our New Dutch Shorts section.

Explore the ’21 programme or look at the timetable to see when each film will be available online. After it’s premier each film will be available to watch for the duration of the festival, so you don’t have to miss out on anything!

Shorts

We’re excited to present six programs in the International Short Film competition a.o. Taxi! by Celia Rowlson-Hall, downriver by Andrea Boll,  Never Twenty One by Kanouté Smaïl.
In addition, we present  Short Docs a.o.  Thank You Lord by Elle Sofe Sara 
and Short XL a.o. Electric Swan by Konstantina Kotzamani. 
In the ‘out of competition’ section we showcase the Dutch state of the art with four New Dutch Shorts programs.

International student competition

Since 2015, Cinedans has been awarding the International Student Award to up-and-coming dance film talents from the international dance, film and art academies. 
In this 6th edition, you can find God’s Daughter Dances by Sungbin Byun 
from the Sungkyunkwan University South Korea, and One Another by Kevin Frilet from the California Institute of the Arts.

Documentaries

We present the Dutch premieres of two documentary portraits: Being Jérôme Bel (FR, 2019, ’79) by directors Sima Khatami and Aldo Lee about the enfant terrible of dance and ‘anti-director’ Jérôme Bel. And Guy Weizman: Before / After (NL, 2020, ‘54) by director Willem Baptist, about the struggles of artistic director of Noord Nederlands Toneel Guy Weizman in creating his new performance “Before / After” at the time of the prevailing pandemic.

We will also show 3 specials during the festival.
Hong Kong in collaboration with Jumping Frames, this program touches on subjects such as life under totalitarian structures, bodies in existential questions, martial arts and of course (irresistible) love.
Blasphemy Rhapsody is a cinematic interpretation of a performance by ICK that got postponed due to Covid-19. It is about the space that arised when your fixed values falter.
In Covid Times you will find a collection of dance films that reflect the experience of the worldwide lockdown and the impact in our movements and bodies. From Havana to Amsterdam!
